Eco-Church

We are delighted to have achieved a silver Eco-Church award in May 2022. Our work does not stop here though, and we continue to take steps to reduce our impact on the environment to care for God’s earth.

As an Eco-Church our actions and current projects include:

  • Dacre Dig Garden project: All are welcome to join our garden project, which runs at the Kingswood Halls: St Margaret's Church - Dacre Dig Community Garden Project (stmargaretslee.org.uk)
  • Encouraging our members to consider their lifestyle and how this impacts on the environment through annual lifestyle audits. Sign up to https://creationcare.org.uk/ and complete the survey to work towards a household award.
  • Our nature churchyard scavenger hunt (see below for download)
  • Praying for environmental matters - https://arocha.org.uk/prayer-diary/
  • Twinning our toilet with a project in Malawi to enable charities there to work with local communities to build life-changing latrines and teach communities about good hygiene, including handwashing,
to stop the spread of infection.
  • Upgrading internal church lighting to LED

Future projects include:

  • Investigating net-zero boiler replacement for the church
  • Upgrading of external floodlights to LED
  • Re-opening the old churchyard and extending the Dacre Dig garden project to this site to include wildflower planting
