Our new Rector

The Reverend Tim Goode

I thought it would be a good idea, before I start my ministry at St Margaret’s Lee to introduce myself to you, so that you will have at least some idea of where I come from and what my history is. I’m married to Bernie, who is Head of the Science Faculty at Sutton High School and a Roman Catholic – so you could say we are an ecumenical partnership! I initially studied music at University and taught for 16 years, 12 of which were as Director of Music at
Homefield School in Sutton. I left teaching in 2007 and trained for the priesthood at Ripon College, Cuddesdon from 2007-2009 and was Assistant Curate at Croydon Minster from 2009 – 2012. Since 2012 I have been the Team Vicar of St Luke’s Whyteleafe and St Peter and
St Paul’s Chaldon, part of the Caterham Team Ministry, leading two
congregations with a catholic tradition and a mission focus. Since 2013 I have been the Disability Advisor for the Southwark Diocese.
As Disability Advisor I have led seminars, spoken at deanery synods and conferences across the diocese and nationally and built relationships with the L’Arche Community, The Kairos Forum, St Thomas’s and Guy’s Hospital, The Guild of St Raphael and Health and St Martin’s in the Fields. I am also on the Southwark DAC, the Diocesan Safeguarding Reference Group, the National Disability Task Group and a trustee of Inclusive Church. I am told that I have a unique sense of humour, though that is for others to verify! I do set out to enjoy life and for my sins relax by singing slightly raucous songs accompanying myself on the accordion! I also love living near London and tapping into the extraordinary culture on our doorstep
