Leah Lodge and the Darby and Joan Club
On the 29th August the Darby and Joan Club were asked to join the residents of Leah Lodge in a Seaside Extravaganza in the Lodge Garden. We arrived around 11.30am to be met with smiles, greetings and a very tasty Hawaiian Cocktail. We settled ourselves down in comfy chairs (our Kingswood Hall chairs and cushions) and enjoyed our garden surroundings with awnings protecting us from the sun. There were small scale games laid out in the garden - croquet, golf putting, darts (played from a sitting position), quoits and badminton. There was also a photo booth. Many people were wearing something associated with the seaside but there were extras for dressing up - skirts, shawls, flower garlands, hats and scarves - and lots of laughter was had as these were draped on our members. The cook produced excellent fish and chips and the most amazing ice cream confections. As we settled down, feeling sleepy, we were awakened by an enthusiastic singer who ensured that everyone woke up and joined in. Our excellent driver from the Door2Door transport system managed to get the coach to give us an extra half hour before they came to break up the party. By 3.30pm we were all on our way home. A real high spot of our summer meetings.
The Darby and Joan Club is a Club for Senior Citizens run under the auspices of St Margaret’s Church. The club meets in Kingswood Halls on Tuesdays between 11.45am and 2.15pm. We are a very friendly group and we are always pleased to welcome newcomers. Find out more here.
